Troy, North Texas to meet in 2017 R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

NEW ORLEANS – Troy University and University of North Texas accepted invitations today to compete against one another in the 17th Annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The game will kick off at 12 p.m. CST and will air on ESPN and ESPN Radio.

“The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Committee, staff and volunteers are delighted to welcome back Troy University and the University of North Texas to New Orleans,” said R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Chairman Sheriff Paul Valteau. “We look forward to celebrating a spectacular week of bowl activities with both universities’ coaches, student-athletes, alumni and fans.”

Led by Head Coach Neal Brown, the Troy Trojans finished the regular season as co-champions of the Sun Belt Conference with a 10-2 overall record and a 7-1 conference record. This marks the Trojans’ fourth appearance in the New Orleans Bowl.

“The New Orleans Bowl is a great destination for our fans and players to celebrate an outstanding season,” said Troy University Head Coach Neal Brown. “I know our players are excited about playing in this bowl game, and we are looking forward to a great week experiencing the culture of New Orleans. This is a bowl game that our fans have circled every year and we’re looking forward to seeing a strong Trojan presence in New Orleans.”

With Head Coach Seth Littrell at the helm, the North Texas Mean Green posted a regular season record of 9-4 overall and a 7-1 conference record, winning the West Division of Conference USA. This will mark the Mean Green’s fifth appearance in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

“We are honored to be invited to play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl,” said University of North Texas Head Coach Seth Littrell. “I have heard so many stories about how great the New Orleans Bowl experience was from our fans, staff and former players who were there from 2001- 2004. New Orleans is a great destination that is easy for our fans to travel to. I’m confident this experience will be memorable for everyone around the Mean Green football program.”
