Trio of Gold Nuggets bring home GCAC volleyball weekly accolades

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Xavier (La.) Gold Nuggets locked up all three volleyball weekly awards as Bria Mayes (attacker), Vivica Price-Spraggins (defender) and Semira Blair (setter) won.

Mayes averaged 2.83 kills (34 total) plus seven digs and an assist as XULA swept Dillard and Tougaloo in Jackson, Mississippi to secure its tenth consecutive GCAC Regular Season Championship. She hit .492 for the weekend while leading the Gold Nuggets in both hitting percentage and total kills.

Price-Spraggins was a dominant force above the net at the Tougaloo Round-up, rejecting 16 shot attempts via block assists (1.33 per set) including eight alone Saturday’s GCAC Regular Season clinching victory over Dillard. She is the program’s career leader in blocks with 328 and contributed offensively as well with 28 kills (2.33 per set) and a hitting percentage of .365.

Blair led the squad with 71 assists for an average of 5.92 per set while being a menace from behind the service line with a team-best 7 aces (0.58 per set). On the defensive end of the court, she registered 22 digs (1.83 per set).
