Top-ranked teams hold serve in new CCS Top 10 state football rankings after third week

There are no changes at the top of the rankings in each of the five classifications in this week’s Crescent City Sports Top 10 statewide football rankings.

In Class 5A, Acadiana had an easy win over Southside to retain the top spot while Archbishop Rummel went to Shreveport and won solidly over Calvary Baptist to hold second and Zachary remains third. Brother Martin moves up to fourth. The Crusaders have scored 149 points in three victories and face a showdown with Rummel Saturday. Catholic of Baton Rouge drops to fifth after a one-point loss to St. Thomas More while John Curtis Christian falls to sixth after a tough loss to Karr. Unbeatens St. Paul’s and Ruston are next with West Monroe up to ninth and Scotlandville moving in at No. 10.

Karr stays on top in 4A after its 36-33 win over Curtis while St. Thomas More is still second off of a 39-38 win at Catholic. Powerful Carencro is third with unbeatens Northwood and Minden rounding out the top five. Tioga is now sixth after a tough 56-42 loss to Brother Martin with Warren Easton up to seventh. Neville drops to eighth and the newcomers are Teurlings Catholic at No. 9 and Vandebilt Cathlic at No. 10.

De La Salle rolled over Lakeshore to keep the top spot in 3A with unbeaten Madison Prep second. St. James got back on track and is third with unbeaten Union Parish fourth and University High fifth. Sterlington holds down the sixth spot with unbeaten Jennings seventh. Unbeaten Lake Charles College Prep is eighth while Church Point and Grant move into the top ten in the ninth and tenth spots.

Notre Dame looked very good in a 35-6 win over Kaplan to remain on top in 2A with Ferriday a close second. St. Charles Catholic scored a huge 17-9 road win over East Ascension to take third. The Comets face a showdown against De La Salle Friday night, live on CrescentCitySports.com. Lafayette Christian is fourth and unbeaten Many is fifth. Newman is sixth after its huge nationally televised win over B.T. Washington (NO). Unbeatens Episcopal, Mangham, Loreauville and Ascension Episcopal round out the top 10.

Ouachita Christian is averaging 53.7 points per game in three wins and stays first in 1A with Oak Grove second. Haynesville is third with Logansport fourth. Calvary Baptist is fifth, having lost to unbeaten 5A schools in Byrd and Rummel. Unbeaten Cedar Creek is sixth with Vermilion Catholic seventh. Riverside Academy is eighth, Ascension Catholic is ninth and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte is tenth.
