It has been a mixed bag for Marcus Scott in his first year as the head coach at John Ehret.

The Patriots garnered lots of respect entering the season, due to recent success as well as a solid roster of player.

Ehret got out of the gate slowly falling to two-time defending Division II state champion University High 20-6 in a game seen live on CrescentCitySports.com.

The Patriots rebounded with a 19-8 win over rival Helen Cox a week ago.

How good is Ehret?

We will find out more when the Patriots host Carver Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Joe Brown Victory Stadium.

Ehret jumped out to a 17-0 lead over Helen Cox before settling for the 11-point win.

Brandon James took over at quarterback for Theodore Calloway for the Patriots and ran for a score, as did Damond Leonard. Michael Gross had a 22-yard field goal for Ehret. Ja’Ron Glenn is a top receiver for Ehret.

The negative for Ehret was 14 penalties, which must be cut down significantly moving forward.

Carver (1-1) beat St. Amant 35-27 before falling 10-0 to Brother Martin last Friday night.

The Rams had 271 yards of offense a week ago but could not score against the Crusaders. Carver committed three turnovers.

Quarterback Quincy Curry is a dual-threat for the Rams.

At Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, the Bearcats of Ruston host unbeaten Airline at 7 p.m. in the LHSAA Game of the Week. The contest will be streamed live at Crescent City Sports.

Ruston (0-2) is perhaps the best winless team in Louisiana. The Bearcats lost to potent Neville of Class 4A in a 21-20 heart-breaker before falling to annual 5A title contender Acadiana 28-20 on the road last week.

Senior quarterback Jaden Procell has completed 16-of-38 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions and has rushed for a score. Junior Deontre Griffin has 26 carries for 117 yards and senior Cam Crowe has four catches for 46 yards. Defensively, senior tackle “Chop” Burks is a beast with 20 tackles, junior linebacker Jordan Williams has 22 tackles and junior safety Jacob Martin has 11 tackles and an interception.

Airline (2-0) has wins over Ouachita Parish (28-20) and Union Parish (36-12). The Vikings are a veteran team, with 13 seniors contributing significantly among their 22 starters.

Junior quarterback Alex Garcia leads the way for Airline. Garcia has completed 34-of-60 passes for 496 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. Junior Rovelle Young is the top rusher with 23 carries for 133 yards and three touchdowns while senior Daniel Smith has been a real threat on the outside with eight catches for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, twins Brandon and Brian Marshall are outstanding at safety while linebacker Willie Sanders has eight tackles and an interception.

Ruston defeated 36-19 over Airline a year ago. The Bearcats have won the last three meeting. The last win for Airline was in 2015 courtesy of a 42-27 victory.
