NEW ORLEANS – “The Founding Fathers Game” was controlled by Thomas Jefferson in a 33-14 victory over Ben Franklin at Falcon Field on the Lakefront Friday afternoon.

First quarter scoring started slow until Ben Franklin forced a safety off of the first of several mishandled snaps throughout the night by Thomas Jefferson. Ben Franklin failed to score on their next possession, however, and the Jaguars quickly responded with a 73 yard drive capped off by a 28 yard scoring run by Darnevin Camille, his first of his three touchdowns.

Thomas Jefferson’s momentum kicked in at the end of the first half. After leading 7-2, the Jaguars scored 20 unanswered points in the final four minutes and 48 seconds of the first half. Fourteen of those points came off turnovers to help Thomas Jefferson run up a 27-2 lead by halftime.

The third quarter started with an another Jaguars fumble recovered by the Falcons, who once again failed to convert it into points. However, Ben Franklin did take advantage of a third quarter interception by Davon Duncan who turned it into a 35 yard touchdown return. To end the third quarter, Thomas Jefferson’s Darvin Camille rushed for a 36 yard touchdown.

Ben Franklin’s Daly Patrick and Donavan Carney connected for a 45 yard touchdown pass, exciting the home crowd in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Jaguars, who finished on top with 241 rushing yards.

After going two-for-two in her debut game last week, Ben Franklin junior kicker Kirsten Brown had a rougher game this week, going 0 for 3, including one blocked and one missed extra point try. Her 37-yard field goal attempt had plenty of distance to spare, but sailed left. Despite the loss and rough outing, Brown’s story as a female soccer player turned prep football kicker is more than enough reason to follow the Falcons for the rest of this season.

Thomas Jefferson will host KIPP Renaissance at Hoss Memtsas next week, and Ben Franklin will welcome Cohen to Falcon Field next Friday.
