Terral, Pickett Lead LA Tech Past Bearkats

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Mary Terral hit a two-run home run and Audrey Pickett pitched nine strong innings to lead Louisiana Tech to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Sam Houston State Sunday afternoon at the Bearkcat Classic.

Tech (5-15) fell to North Dakota State 6-3 in the first game of the day despite Zoe Hicks second home run of the week.

Game 1: North Dakota State 6, LA Tech 3

North Dakota State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and then added runs in the second and fourth innings as the Bison revenged a 2-0 loss to the Lady Techsters on Saturday with the 6-3 victory Sunday morning.

Tech starter Bre Hernandez struck out six in the complete-game performance but allowed six runs – five earned – on eight hits and four walks in the loss.

North Dakota State built a 6-0 lead before Tech plated two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Lindsay Edwards reached on an error in the sixth and with two outs, scored on an RBI single by Marilyn Rizzato to cut the deficit to 6-1. Bayli Simon then singled before Meghan Robicheaux drove home the second run of the inning with an RBI single to right field.

Hicks added a solo home run in the seventh inning – her second of the week and of her LA Tech career – to finish out the scoring. Hicks led Tech with three hits in the loss.

Game 2: LA Tech 4, Sam Houston State 3 (9 innings)

One out away from dropping its second game of the day, Zoe Hicks doubled home two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to give the Lady Techsters a 2-1 lead.

Sam Houston State plated a run in the bottom of the frame to send the contest into extra innings where Tech found a way to win.

Mary Terral blasted her first home run of the year – a two-run shot to left field in the top of the ninth inning – to give Tech a 4-2 advantage.

The Bearkats rallied in the bottom of the frame, plating a run and loading the bases with just one out. However, Pickett induced a ground ball back to the circle for the second out and then a line out to second base to end the game.

Pickett (2-6) picked up the win for the Lady Techsters, allowing three runs – just one earned – on nine hits and two walks while striking out six Bearkat batters. She used 146 pitches to induce 19 ground outs, six strikeouts and one fly out in the game.

Terral, Simon and Addison Roark led Tech with two hits each while Hicks added two RBI.
