Techsters falls at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Virginia – Amari Young scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and Aziah Hudson added 20 points to lead Old Dominion to a 77-61 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon at Chartway Arena.

Old Dominion (18-3, 8-1 C-USA) outrebounded Tech (10-10, 2-7) 41-23, including pulling down 16 offensive rebounds, as the Monarchs won their seventh straight game.

“I just thought they were the more physical team,” said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. “Amber Dixon led us on the boards with seven rebounds. Our starting point guard led us in rebounding. This is the third straight game where our guards led us in rebounding. We have to get more from our post players.”

Sophomore Keiunna Walker recorded one of her best games of her young college career, scoring 22 points, grabbing four rebounds, adding two assists and not committing a turnover in 34 minutes of action. Walker his 7-of-13 field goals and 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

Dixon added 16 points and seven rebounds for Tech.

After Tech took an early 2-0 lead, Old Dominion rattled off 12 straight points to take a 12-2 lead and pushed it out to 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. Behind Young’s inside dominance and Hudson’s outside shooting, Old Dominion increased its lead to 43-26 at the half.

Hudson hit 6-of-11 three-pointers while Marie Reichert added 12 points and Taylor Edwards scored 11 points in the win.

Tech returns to action Thursday when the Lady Techsters host WKU at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
