LAKE CHARLES – McNeese basketball head coach Will Wade has announced the addition of TCU transfer guard Shahada (sha-ha-day) Wells to the Cowboys’ 2023-24 roster.

Wells, a native of Amarillo, Texas, appeared in all 35 games and made nine starts this past season for the Horned Frogs, helping guide the team to a 22-13 overall record and a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

“We are very excited about Shahada Wells joining our program,” said Wade. “Hada is a proven scorer at all levels and is someone who will make an impact for us from day one. He is an awesome young man who is graduating this spring from TCU and we can’t wait to start working with him in June.

“Shahada is a perfect fit for our program and system on both offense and defense.”

Wells played the last two seasons at TCU and before that, earned All-Sun Belt Conference and NABC All-District 23 honors while at UT Arlington. He began his collegiate career with two seasons at Tyler Junior College where he was named an NJCAA Division I First Team All-American and the Region XIV Player of the Year his sophomore season after averaging 21.6 points per game.

At TCU last season, Wells averaged 5.9 points and 2.3 assists per game while knocking down 44 percent from the field. He scored double-figures nine times with a high of 17 points in a 23-point win at Kansas on Jan. 21 where he led the team while shooting 7-for-8 from the field including 3-for-4 from three-point range.

Wells becomes the sixth signee for the Cowboys this season.
