DALLAS – After going 8-for-16 across Louisiana Tech’s 3-1 record last week, Tech third baseman Tanner Huddleston was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Huddleston continued his hot hitting in one of the most important weekends to date for the Bulldog baseball team. The third baseman led Tech to a series sweep over UL-Lafayette and a weekend series win over No. 24 Florida Atlantic.

The Lucedale, Mississippi, native collected multiple hits in three of Tech’s four games last week, leading the team with a .500 batting average. Against UL-Lafayette, Huddleston went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored. In the weekend set against FAU, Huddleston hit 5-for-16, while collecting three more RBI.

The senior slugged a team-best .875 last week, on the strength of three extra-base hits in four games (1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR), leading the team with 14 total bases. His on-base percentage also paced the Bulldogs, at a clip of .556.

In the field, Huddleston did not make an error, starting all four games at third base.

After a slow start to the season, Huddleston has erupted in his last 16 games. Following the Southern Miss series to open conference play, Huddleston’s average sat at .211. Since that time, Huddleston is hitting .403 (25-for-62) with 15 RBI, boosting his season average north of .300, currently at .311.

In Conference USA games, Huddleston is hitting .309 and leads the team with 13 RBI.

This is Tech’s second straight weekly award from the league office, as senior closer Braxton Smith was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Week last week.

The Bulldogs return to action this Tuesday, staying on the road to face ULM at 6 p.m.
