Swimmers from the North Shore shine at LHSAA state championships

The LHSAA State Swimming Championships were held last week at the Sulphur SPAR Aquatics Center. Schools north of Lake Ponchartrain once again made their marks with state titles at stake.

Highlighting a few of the top performances, the Pope John Paul II boys team captured their third straight state title. The Jaguars had a dominant performance and won by 129 points.

The Pope John Paul II Jaguars girls team provided the most competitive challenge for their State Runner Up honors, missing out on the title by a mere 14 points to Episcopal School of Acadiana. This finish is the highest ever for the Lady Jaguars at the finals.

The SSA Doves captured their amazing 12th straight state title. The Doves left little doubt who was the best team, outpacing St. Thomas More by 146 points.

Lakeshore High’s boys earned state runner up honors for a third straight year, a remarkable feat with only nine boys on the team. Among the 16 teams to take home a State Championship or State Runner Up title, Lakeshore was the only public school. The Titans gave Holy Cross, the Division 2 Champion, a serious scare and finished only 20.5 points behind.
