SWAC baseball tournament returns to New Orleans

Wesley Barrow StadiumAgain this year, the Southwestern Athletic Conference is playing its baseball championship at the MLB Urban Youth Academy at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

The tournament got underway Wednesday morning, with Grambling State defeating Alcorn State 14-4 in the first of four games on the day.

Southern is the top seed from the Western Division, with Grambling State seeded second. Two-time defending champion Texas Southern is the West’s No. 3 seed.

Alabama State is the top seed from the Eastern Division, followed by Jackson State.

The tournament continues through Sunday’s championship game, which will be televised nationally on ESPNews at 11:30 a.m.

Admission is $10 per day or $35 for the week. Youth tickets – for kids age 10 and under or students with a valid high school or college ID – are $5 per day or $10 for the week.
