Sun Belt Science of Basketball STEM Field Trips Registration

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference is once again making learning fun through the game of basketball.

The Sun Belt is hosting three Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field trips for elementary and middle school students in the Greater New Orleans area from Wednesday, March 13 to Friday, March 15 in conjunction with 2019 Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships presented by First Bank and Trust.

Each field trip begins at 9 a.m. at Lakefront Arena and features 10 interactive stations from learning about shooting percentages to measuring your wingspan to dribbling through an obstacle course to designing your own uniform. Following the educational session, participants are slated to enjoy some Sun Belt basketball action taking in the tournaments’ 11:30 a.m. game that day.

Registration for a STEM field trip is $5 per student, which includes the educational session, lunch and tournament game ticket. Deadline to register is Friday, March 1.

The Sun Belt Science of Basketball STEM field trips are coordinated in collaboration with the Science of Sport and with support from the College Football Playoff Foundation.

In addition to the field trips, the Sun Belt Sports Fest and Dribble Drive complement the tournament action on the hardwood. The Sports Fest takes place Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Lakefront Arena grounds with the Dribble Drive scheduled to commence at 2 p.m.

Children ages 3-12 are welcome to join in on the fun and dribble their basketballs starting from around the venue grounds to inside the Lakefront Arena. Each Dribble Drive participant will receive a free t-shirt, a free basketball and two tickets to the men’s semifinal games slated for 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Registration for the Dribble Drive is free, but pre-registration is recommended. Click HERE to register. Walk-up registration on March 16 begins at 1 p.m.
