YOUNGSVILLE – Brooke Tyree of Sulphur leads a close race in the individual standings, but the three-time defending champion Golden Tors find themselves in an unaccustomed place after Monday’s Division I girls’ first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA State Golf Championships.

Captain Shreve, buoyed by a 76 from Rachel Dupree and an 84 from Kaitlyn Montoya, holds the team lead with a 160 score heading into Tuesday’s final round over the 5,679-yard par-74 Les Vieux Chenes course. That is good enough for a three-stroke lead over Sulphur at 163, while St. Louis Catholic stands in third place at 174, C. E. Byrd is fourth at 181, and Ursuline is fifth at 182.

Tyree posted a one-over-par 75, one stroke better than Dupree and Madeline Boudreau of Academy of Our Lady, while Blair McKenzie of Mandeville and Gillian Cole of C. E. Byrd are two more strokes back and tied for fourth at four-over 78.

Tyree trailed Boudreau by two strokes through 14 holes after Boudreau carded a one-under 35 on the front side. But Tyree birdied both the par-five 15th hole and the par-four 16th while Boudreau bogeyed the 16th and the par-three 17th holes on the way to a back-nine 41.

Tyree finished with three birdies and two bogeys for the day, while teammate Abbie Richard had an 88 for the team’s other counting score.
