YOUNGSVILLE – Sulphur’s fourth straight Division I girls’ title wasn’t easy, but the Golden Tors rallied in Tuesday’s final round to once again sit atop the leaderboard at the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA State Golf Championships.

Sulphur trailed Captain Shreve by three strokes entering Tuesday’s final round, but carded the low team round of the day by 10 strokes to claim their fourth title in the four years that the 5,679-yard par-74 Les Vieux Chenes course has hosted the state championship.

Individually, Sulphur’s Brooke Tyree finally broke through after three years of top-three finishes to claim the Division I individual title. Tyree, who entered the final round with a one-shot lead, posted Tuesday’s low round by four strokes and finished at one-over 75-74—149 to win by a five-shot margin.

Tyree’s even-par round and teammate Abbie Richard’s 84 left Sulphur with a final-round 158 and a two-round total of 321, good enough for a seven-stroke win.

Tyree, who had finished third in 2015, tied for second in 2016 and second last year, had two birdies on the front side Tuesday to open up a gap over Rachel Dupree of Captain Shreve and Madeline Boudreau of Academy of Our Lady, who were tied for second at two-over 76 entering the final round.

Dupree finished second with a final-round 78 for a 154 total, helping Captain Shreve finish second in the team chase at 328. Shreve had posted a first-round 160 behind Dupree’s 76 and an 84 from Kaitlyn Montoya.

Boudreau carded an 80 on Tuesday and finished third at 156, while Gillian Cole of C. E. Byrd (78-81—159) finished fourth at Blair McKenzie of Mandeville (78-85—163) finished fifth.

C. E. Byrd improved by one place to finish third in the team race for the second straight year at 356, while Zachary was fourth at 360 and St. Louis Catholic fifth at 362.
