HAMMOND, La. – Stony Brook fought off multiple rallies Saturday by Southeastern Louisiana, eventually erupting for an 11-6 win over the Lions in 11 innings at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Champ Artigues tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, smashing a two-run double into the right-center field gap. Southeastern (4-6) missed an opportunity to win the game, stranding a pair of runners.

Connor Manola led off the 10th with a double to left field. After he advanced to third base on a fly ball, Stony Brook (2-7) issued a pair of one-out, intentional walks to Matt Taylor and Tyler Finke to load the bases. The Lions again missed an opportunity to win the game.

In the 11th, a throwing error by first baseman Preston Faulkner led to five unearned runs for the Seawolves.

Southeastern had rallied from a 2-0 deficit earlier in the game, only to fall behind again in the sixth when an error kept the inning alive. The Seawolves capitalized in the form of a grand slam off the bat of designated hitter Brad Hipsley.

All 11 Stony Brook runs in the game were unearned.

Reliever Brandon Lashley (1-1) earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings to close out the game. Justin Simanek (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing five unearned runs in his three-inning stint.

Finke led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of walks and one run scored.

The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. Southeastern will start junior right-hander Will Warren (0-0, 4.70) in the finale and the Seawolves are slated to send out freshman righty Josh O’Neill (0-0, 0.00).
