State champions Ouachita Christian, Catholic-Pointe Coupee headline Class 1A all-state baseball, softball teams

Ouachita Christian of Monroe and Catholic-Pointe Coupee reaped the spoils reserved for state champions on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s All-State baseball and softball teams.

A panel of sports writers from across Louisiana selected catcher Clint Hargrave as the Class 1A baseball Most Valuable Player. Hargrave, a Southeastern Louisiana University signee, batted .404 with 43 RBIs, five home runs and only struck out just 10 times in 114 at-bats for the Division IV state champions.

The Eagles were also represented on the first team by pitcher Ty Pankey and utility player Bailey Burtram.

Blaire Bizette was voted the Most Valuable Player in softball after pitching Catholic-Pointe Coupee to the Division IV state championship with a 21-3 record, 2.04 ERA, 117 strikeouts and a .627 batting average. Joining Bizette on the first team was Lady Hornets teammate Kailynn LaBlanc at infield.

Greg Manuel was named the coach of the year for baseball after leading Oberlin to the Class 1A baseball state title. Oberlin’s Trevor Rider was also recognized as a first-team pitcher.

OCS was no slouch in softball either and finished as the Division IV softball runner-up, which landed Britni Head the Coach of the Year award. The Lady Eagles also placed pitcher Sarah Tilmon, outfielder Peyton Owens and utility player Allie Rae Hamby on the first team.

Class 1A softball state champion Oak Grove also brought a title back to the Monroe-area, landing infielder Carlee Newton and outfielder Amber Sullivan first-team honors.
