St. Paul’s, Holy Cross earn top seeds in state boys soccer playoffs

A pair of area multiple defending state champions are once again the teams to beat in the boys soccer playoffs which begin Thursday.

In Division I, unbeaten and defending state champion St. Paul’s (25-0) is the No. 1 seed. The Wolves have a bye and will play the winner of No. 16 West Monroe and No. 17 Sulphur.

Denham Springs (18-7-1) is the No. 2 seed and has a bye and will face the winner of No. 15 Slidell and No. 18 Grace King, who meet Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeshore.

Catholic of Baton Rouge (11-3-2) is the third seed while Dutchtown (18-5-1) is seeded fourth.

Jesuit (15-3-5) is the fifth seed and gets a bye. The Blue Jays will meet the winner of No. 12 Central Lafourche and No. 21 West Jefferson (14-7-3).

Brother Martin (14-2-5) is sixth and gets a bye. The Crusaders will meet the winner of No. 11 Destrehan (14-6-1) and No. 22 East Ascension.

No. 10 Mandeville (18-5-3) will host No. 23 Captain Shreve Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Two-time defending state champion Holy Cross (19-6-4) is the No. 1 seed in Division II. The Tigers will face the winner of No. 16 Belle Chasse (9-7-4) and No. 17 Westgate, who meet Friday at 6 p.m. at Belle Chasse.

St. Thomas More (14-4-1) is No. 2, Beau Chene (18-6-2) is the third seed while Neville (13-5-2) is seeded fourth.

Ben Franklin (12-4-6) is seeded fifth and has a bye. The Falcons will meet the winner of No. 12 Riverdale (10-4-2) and No. 21 Woodlawn of Baton Rouge.

East Jefferson (7-8-3) is No. 6 and has a bye. The Warriors will meet the winner of No. 11 Caddo Magnet and No. 22 Haughton.

Bonnabel (15-6-3) is No. 7 and has a bye. The Bruins will face the winner of the match pitting No. 23 Higgins (8-7) at No. 10 Benton.

No. 19 Lakeshore (8-11-3) travels to No. 14 South Terrebonne Saturday at 7 p.m.

Helen Cox (12-3) earned the eighth seed and has a bye before taking on the winner of No. 9 Ouachita Parish and No. 24 McKinley.

In Division III, Vandebilt Catholic (19-3-8) is the top seed and has a bye with defending state champion University High (15-3-2) seeded second.

Lusher Charter (17-2-4) earned the third seed and has a bye. The Lions will meet the winner of No. 19 Lutcher (9-11-4) at No. 14 DeRidder, who meet Saturday at 6 p.m.

New Orleans Military & Maritime (15-5-2) is the No. 9 seed and will host No. 24 Morgan City Friday at 6 p.m.

No. 13 Archbishop Hannan (7-9-6) entertains No. 20 Cecilia Saturday at 3 p.m.

No. 18 Haynes Academy (6-8-1) travels to No. 15 St. Michael.

No. 21 Pearl River (8-10-2) plays at No. 12 St. Louis Catholic (7-9-10) Saturday at 3 p.m.

In Division IV, Episcopal (12-4-3) is the No. 1 seed with a bye and Catholic of New Iberia (9-6-5) is second and will face the winner of defending state champion No. 15 Northlake Christian (8-8-3) and No. 18 Calvary Baptist.

Newman (10-6-3) is the third seed with a bye. The Greenies will face the winner of No. 14 Opelousas Catholic and No. 19 Glenmora.

No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (5-9-3) will host No. 22 Westminster Christian.
