YOUNGSVILLE – Morgan Guepet of St. Martin’s had the low round of the day for the second straight round Tuesday, adding to her advantage and running away with the girls’ Division II individual title at the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA State Golf Championships.

Guepet added to her six-under-par 68 total from Monday’s opening round with a four-under 70 Tuesday over the 5,679-yard par-74 Les Vieux Chenes layout. Her 138 total was good enough for a seven-stroke victory over Liza Lapeyre of Isidore Newman, whose 72-73—145 score put her in the runner-up position for the second straight state tournament.

Guepet birdied three of the four par-threes in her six-birdie round, giving her a total of 13 birdies in the two-round, 36-hole event.

Lapeyre’s one-under 73 in the final round was easily enough to lead Newman to the team championship, with teammate Fionna Marks (82-79—161) finishing sixth individually.

Newman’s 306 score was 20 strokes better than runner-up Ursuline Academy (326), while Christ Episcopal finished at 365 in third place and Guepet’s St. Martin’s team finished fourth at 382.

Cassidy Lambert of Academy of the Sacred Heart-New Orleans claimed third place individually, rallying from an opening 81 Monday to share low-round honors with Guepet Tuesday at 70 and finish at 151. Sophia Macias of Episcopal was one more stroke back in fourth place at 152.
