St. Charles Catholic, Newman move to top spots in CCS Class 2A rankings
A pair of District 11-2A rivals have moved to the top of the Class 2A statewide rankings after victories this past weekend.
St. Charles Catholic, whose community in LaPlace was ravaged by Hurricane Ida, is now the top team in Class 2A after remaining unbeaten Saturday while Newman is a very strong second after also remaining unbeaten. The Comets reached the Division III state title game in 2020 while the Greenies were in the semifinals.
Four-time defending state champion Lafayette Christian slips to third off of a loss to Catholic of Baton Rouge while defending 2A state champion Many is fourth. Unbeatens Amite and Loreauville are next with Notre Dame seventh. General Trass, Mangham and Avoyelles round out the top 10.
In Class 5A, the song remains the same as powerful Catholic of Baton Rouge continues as a strong No. 1 with Zachary second. Alexandria is third with Ponchatoula fourth and Brother Martin fifth with all five teams still unbeaten. John Curtis Christian is sixth with unbeaten Captain Shreve seventh. Acadiana is eighth with Destrehan moving in a No. 9. Ruston completes the top 10.
Karr was tremendous in a huge win at St. James and tops Class 4A while Neville, with its signature win over West Monroe, is second. Unbeaten Teurlings Catholic is third with unbeaten Carver fourth. Westgate moves into fifth off of a big win. Warren Easton moves up to sixth while Carencro advances to seventh. Huntington is eighth, St. Thomas More falls to ninth and unbeaten Liberty is in at No. 10.
In Class 3A, unbeaten University High is No. 1 with defending 3A state champion Madison Prep still unbeaten and second. Unbeaten Sterlington is third with De La Salle moving up to fourth. St. James falls to fifth. Unbeatens E.D. White Catholic and Church Point are next with Union Parish eighth. Donaldsonville moves up to ninth and Westgate is in at No. 10.
Unbeaten Ouachita Christian continues on top in Class 1A with Calvary Baptist second. Unbeaten Grand Lake is third with Oak Grove up to fourth and Homer fifth. Haynesville is up to sixth with unbeaten Westminster Christian seventh. Southern Lab, St. Frederick and Ascension Catholic round out the top 10.
