A strong game on the ground led to a convincing 42-0 win Friday night for St. Charles Catholic over Lusher on Homecoming to open up District 10-3A play.

St. Charles Catholic struck quick with senior running back Joseph Chiarella scoring on the first snap of the game via a 51 yard touchdown run to give them a 7-0 lead. After forcing a three and out and a good punt return by junior running back Philip Tran to give the Comets great field position, Chiarella also scored on the second offensive snap of the game via a 21 yard touchdown run.

Chiarella added one more touchdown run to give the Comets a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. He finished with four carries for 79 yards and three touchdowns.

In the second quarter, it was the Comets sophomore running back Keenan Gauff’s turn as he scored touchdowns on runs of 25, 13 and 59 yards to extend St. Charles Catholic’s lead to 42-0 at the half.

Lusher faced constant pressure from the St. Charles Catholic defense. Junior running back Miles Stewart finished with 14 carries for 35 yards.

Two senior linebackers for Lusher had solid showings as Jorren Butler finished with nine total tackles (5 solo and 4 assisted) and Marcus Lewis finished with eight total tackles (4 solo and 4 assisted) and an interception.

The Lions would look to rebound next week as they face another tough test with district and neighborhood foe De La Salle and St. Charles Catholic goes on the road to face Donaldsonville.
