Southland announces conference men’s basketball television schedule including UNO-McNeese on ESPNU

New Orleans-McNeese men’s contest moved to Sunday, Jan. 30 on ESPNU

FRISCO, Texas – Eight men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders have been selected as the Southland Conference Games of the Week, the league announced Thursday. These games will air on ESPN+.

Additionally, the men’s basketball contest between New Orleans and McNeese has been picked up by ESPNU and will now be played at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday, Jan. 30.

The wild card selection will be made by the league based on the most optimal matchup at least two weeks in advance.

The Southland Conference men’s and women’s basketball seasons get underway Tuesday, Nov. 9, with conference play tipping off on Saturday, Jan. 15.

The season slate also includes the Southland Tip-Off Event, a six-day event held at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas, Jan. 3-8, that will provide three additional games on each team’s schedule that will count as non-conference games. The women will compete over three days Jan. 3-5, and the men will participate Jan. 6-8.

The brackets for the event will be revealed via blind draw by Commissioner Tom Burnett at noon CT on Monday, Oct. 25.

The Southland Preseason Slam, highlighting the conference’s men’s and women’s programs, will continue on Tuesday with the announcement of the men’s basketball preseason all-conference teams and the preseason poll, followed by a closer look at each of the men’s squads on Wednesday and Thursday.
