BATON ROUGE – Southern Lab advanced to the Division IV State championship game behind senior quarterback Angelo Izzard in a 33-0 shutout of St. Frederick in the Division IV semifinals Friday night.

In a dominant effort defensively, the Kittens tallied three sacks and an interception.

“Our defense played well and we got a great defensive staff those guys did a phenomenal job preparing our guys. They work late hours and nobody complains about it,” Asberry said.

St. Frederick (9-3) was led by running back Michael Thompson, Jr. who rushed for 112 yards on 26 carries.

“This is a really good Southern Lab team. They came out played good on offense, defense and special teams and we made too many mistakes and got behind early,” St. Frederick head coach Andy Robinson said. “They are a physicial, fast football team and the best team we played all year.”

No. 2 Southern Lab (10-2) advances to take on Ouachita Christian for the state title Saturday, Dec. 11 in Lafayette.
