Southeastern’s Nichols, Colonels’ LaBure land Softball weekly honors

Nichols bats .636, slugs .636; LaBure tosses no-hitter, carries a perfect game into fifth

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana’s Kinsey Nichols and Nicholls’ Alexis LaBure are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.

The Lions (30-17, 14-7 SLC) earned a series win over Central Arkansas (24-21, 12-9 SLC) to maintain a share of first place in the standings. Nicholls (32-13, 15-6 SLC) went 5-0 on the week with a pair of wins over Alcorn State and a three-game sweep of Northwestern State (24-19, 11-10 SLC).

Softball Hitter of the Week – Kinsey Nichols, Southeastern Louisiana – OF – Sr. – Alvin, Texas

Nichols was the catalyst for a Lion offense that hit .305 as a team during a 4-1 week. The senior outfielder was 4-for-6 in Southeastern’s weekend series win over Central Arkansas. She was 7-on-7 on stolen bases for the week and led the Lions with six runs scored. The native of Alvin, Texas, batted .636 with a .636 slugging percentage for the week. Nichols leads with SLU with a .353 batting average, including a team-best .400 batting average in the Southland Conference play.

Softball Pitcher of the Week – Alexis LaBure, Nicholls – Fr. – Port Neches, Texas

The freshman from Port Neches, Texas, tossed two shutouts and allowed just one hit in 11 innings of work this past week. She started the week with her first career no-hitter, a six-inning performance against Alcorn State. She carried that over to the weekend where she had a perfect game in the fifth inning in her start against then-second place Northwestern State. LaBure struck out 11 in as many innings and had a .030 opponent batting average on a 0.00 ERA week. Paired with the junior Megan Landry, who was 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA, the staff allowed just three runs in 30 innings.
