Southeastern’s Forster, HCU’s Rousselot take opening Southland Golfer of the Month awards for 2022-23

Charlie Forster of Southeastern and Lou Rousselot of HCU

FRISCO, Texas – Charlie Forster of Southeastern and Lou Rousselot of HCU earned the initial Southland Conference Cross Golfer of the Month awards for the 2022-23 season, as announced by the league office Thursday.

Men’s Athlete of the Week: Charlie Forster, Southeastern – So. – Winchester, England (Peter Symonds College)
Forster capped the opening month of the season by winning individual medalist honors at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational. The sophomore birdied four of his final five holes, carded a final round 66 and then eagled the first playoff hole to win the tournament with a score of 206 (-7). In his season debut at the Grover Page Classic, he led Southeastern with a 213 (-3) and finished in a tie for 10th in the individual standings. For the month, he posted a stroke average of 69.8 and finished under par for four of his six rounds.

Women’s Athlete of the Week: Lou Rousselot, HCU – So. – Le Plan de la Tour, France
Rousselot kicked of a strong fall campaign earlier this month at the USA Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama. Rousselot led the Huskies with a T-10 finish individually after carding rounds of 71, 76, and 66 for a 213 total. Rousselot’s 66 was a career low that featured seven birdies, ten pars and just one bogey. Her performance contributed to an HBU program record round of 12-under par (276 total) during the final round of the USA Intercollegiate to help the Huskies to a fourth place team finish. At the Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston earlier this week, Rousselot finished in a tie for 15th individually after shooting rounds of 71, 76 and 79 for a 226 total. Rousselot assisted the team in finishing third place overall.

Southland monthly golf award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
