NEW ORLEANS – Southeastern Louisiana pounded out 14 hits Tuesday on the way to a 10-3 nonconference win over Tulane at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The win was the seventh in the last eight games against Tulane for the Lions.

Falling behind twice on home runs early, Southeastern battled back against the Green Wave bullpen.

A two-run home run in the first staked Tulane to a short-lived lead. Trey Harrington and Nathan Pilutti hit back-to-back home runs leading off the second, tying up the game. It was the third time this season the Lions have hit back-to-back homers.

The only hit off Southeastern reliever Payton Robinson during his three-inning stint was a leadoff homer by Kody Hoese in the third inning. A solo shot, it was Hoese’s nation-leading 21st of the season.

Southeastern (22-19) took the lead in the fifth. Cody Grosse led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. After Green Wave starting pitcher Krishna Raj issued a walk to Preston Faulkner, both runners advanced into scoring position on a fly out to center field off the bat of Kyle Schimpf

Harrington greeted reliever Robert Price with a two-run single up the middle, putting the Lions on top.

Bryce Tassin (3-2) took over for Robinson on the mound in the bottom of the inning, tossing three scoreless frames as Southeastern added to its lead.

The Lions tacked on a pair in the sixth on a Schimpf ground out and Harrington’s third hit of the game. Four more runs in the seventh put the game out of reach.

Grant Upton and Jared Biddy worked a scoreless inning apiece to close out the game.

Tassin earned the win, yielding just one hit and striking out one. Raj (3-1) suffered the loss, coughing up four runs on five hits and three walks in 4.1 innings pitched. He struck out three.

Brenna Breaud, a senior from Norco, Louisiana, went 4-for-5 at the plate as he closes in on 200 career hits. Harrington was 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Grosse (2-for-5) and Connor Manola (2-for-5) also picked up multiple hits for the Lions.

Southeastern resumes Southland action Friday at 6 p.m. with the opening game of three-game series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Tulane (26-14) returns to American Athletic Conference play this weekend, traveling to take on the ECU Pirates in Greenville.
