Southeastern releases inaugural Beach Volleyball Schedule

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana faces its first NCAA beach volleyball competition in early March and will host its own event later in the month, head coach Jeremy White announced Wednesday.

Following the season-opening New Orleans Invitational and the Southland Conference showcase event, Southeastern returns to Hammond to host in-state rival Nicholls in the inaugural Lion Up Beach Bash.

“It sets up well for us as a first-year program” White said. “We’re going to play some competitive matches against some pretty good teams. There are also opportunities for some real success.”

The Beach Lions open their first season of NCAA competition with duals against Southern Miss, Spring Hill, Texas A&M-Kingsville, host UNO and conference-foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The aforementioned New Orleans Invitational will be held March 6-7 at Digs Volleyball Complex in Covington, Louisiana.

Southeastern heads to Houston, Texas the following weekend for contests at Third Coast Volleyball against Stephen F. Austin, host Houston Baptist, Central Arkansas and Abilene Christian, March 14-15, in the Southland Showcase.

The inaugural Lion Up Beach Bash will be held March 20 at the beach volleyball complex currently under construction at North Oak Park.

After hosting its first home event, Southeastern is scheduled to compete in tournaments at Southern Miss, ULM and Tulane before winding down the regular season at the Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship, April 17-19, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“We want to be competitive,” White said. “That’s our big focus. We have a learning curve with a largely double-rostered team, but I’m not sitting here thinking we’ll have a fun year. We want to be competitive against everyone we play. Our big goals are, no matter how we start the season, to improve throughout and finish strong. Everyone gets to go to the conference tournament, so we could be a completely different team between the showcase and when we face everybody again.”

DIGGIN’ IT CLUB / S CLUB
Fans interested in becoming active supporters of the Southeastern volleyball program are encouraged to join the Diggin’ It Club. Lion volleyball alums are encouraged to join the exclusive S Club, which is restricted to Southeastern athletic letter winners.
