HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University was one of 13 recipients of the NCAA’s 2022-23 Accelerating Academic Success Program (AASP) Award, the NCAA announced recently.

The NCAA annually awards more than $1 million in AASP grants to colleges and universities to help boost academic programs and initiatives, which tie to graduation and the overall success of its student-athletes.

Southeastern, Austin Peay, Cal State-Northridge, Cleveland State, Coppin State, Delaware State, Indiana State, Nicholls, Norfolk State, Saint Peter’s, Tennessee State, Texas Southern and UT Martin were this year’s recipients.

“One of the pillars of our department’s mission statement is excellence in the classroom,” Southeastern Director of Athletics commented. “Our student-athletes have consistently set new semester records for department-wide grade point averages and this grant will assist us in continuing that trend of success.”

The $100,000 grant will be used for student-athletes to attend summer bridge; life skills programming; degree completion; technology upgrades and professional development for academic support staff.

“We are excited to announce and congratulate the 2022-23 recipients of the Accelerating Academic Success Award,” NCAA senior vice president of inclusion, education and community engagement Felicia Martin said. “Previous grant recipients used the funding to make significant strides toward enhancing their student-athlete services and enriching the student-athlete experience. Each campus recipient clearly stated a commitment to invest in resources and to evolve services to support student-athletes’ educational experience and their academic success.”
