Hammond, La. – The Southland Conference Champion Southeastern Louisiana University women’s basketball team added two new players to the roster for the 2023-24 season.

Kennedy Paul, a six-foot one transfer from Prairie View A&M University joined the Lady Lions for next season. Originally from Baton Rouge, LA, Paul was a two-star athlete at the University Lab School in Baton Rouge. She was an all-district athlete in both softball and basketball.

Paul started her collegiate career at Prairie View A&M University as a freshman in the 2019-20 season and is now a junior. “Kennedy is a really good get for us and our program.” SLU head coach Ayla Guzzardo commented. “Kennedy is a versatile post player that’s able to score off the ball from inside and step out and shoot the three. She is a vocal leader and is going to be fun to coach.”

She was the leading scorer for her prior institution with a .429 field goal percentage. Paul was second on the team averaging .791 percent in free throw percentage. She averaged 12.4 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game.

The final piece to the Lady Lions’ recruiting journey this year is Demi Gentry, an incoming freshman from Memphis, TN. Standing at six foot tall, Gentry is a much- needed piece to Guzzardo’s game plan for next year. “Demi has been a part of the Lady Lion family since she was 10 years old. It’s only right we make it official. She has grown into a strong skilled guard able to play multiple positions.”

Last year, Gentry had five three pointers as a high school junior vs. White Haven and is skilled on the hardwood and will be essential for SLU’s success next season. “Her work ethic and accountability are essential to our program and helping us compete and play for another Southland Championship.” Guzzardo said.
