HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern hit kings Cass Hargis and Ty Summerlin, along with Major League All-Star Wade Miley, highlight the Southeastern Louisiana All-Decade Team for the 2000s, head coach Matt Riser announced Saturday.

Summerlin became the Lions all-time hits leader during his senior season, bypassing previous record holder Macky Waguespack (210 career hits) in 2009 and finishing his career with 276 hits. Just two seasons later, Hargis overtook his former teammate to become the current record holder for career hits (299).

The team consists of starting pitchers Josh Black, Miley, Bernard Robert and Steve Trosclair, relievers Ryan Collins, Chris Province and Brent Varnado along with utility player Chris Franklin (reliever-third baseman), catcher Randy Roth, first baseman Trent Hebert, second baseman Richard Imhoff, Summerlin at shortstop, third baseman Anthony Garibaldi, Hargis in the outfield along with Ryan Spencer and Russell Taylor, and designated hitter Cody Gougler.

Rounding out the squad are reserves Josh Cryer (catcher), Joey Duhe (infielder), Anthony Krajancic (infielder), Xavier Qualls (outfielder) and Brandon Street (outfielder).

Miley was the only unanimous selection among the voters. Previously selected to the Southland Conference All-Decade team were Garibaldi, Miley, Robert, Roth and Varnado. Hargis and Miley are members of the Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coaches during the decade include Greg Marten (1991-2002), Dan Canevari (2003-05) and Jay Artigues (2006-13). Marten (352-302), a member of the Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame, wrapped up his career as the winningest coach in program history. Artigues, who currently serves as Director of Athletics at Southeastern, ranks second in program history with 276 on-field victories.

Players earned placement on the ballot based on postseason awards, single-season and career records earned, and overall career achievements. The team was selected by a voting base that consisted of former Southeastern baseball letterwinners, coaches and administrators.

All former Southeastern baseball lettermen are eligible to cast a ballot for each of the seven squads making up the All-Decade Teams. Ballots will be conducted by email. An executive committee consisting of current and former coaches, players and SIDs will oversee the creation of the final team structure.

Lettermen interested in participating are asked to contact Associate Sports Information Director Damon Sunde (damon.sunde@southeastern.edu) to be added to the voting panel.
