HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s basketball team released their 2019-20 schedule Tuesday under first-year head coach David Kiefer.

The Lions (17-16, 12-6 Southland in 2018) will once again be challenged in the non-conference schedule under Kiefer’s new regime.

Southeastern will play road games at Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Tulane, Austin Peay and UL Lafayette. The Lions will also get a rematch with Ole Miss in Jackson, Mississippi after playing in 2018.

“We have a challenging and competitive non-conference schedule,” said Kiefer. “We want to make sure that we have ourselves prepared for a very difficult conference schedule with now playing 20 games.”

SLU will have four non-conference home games with the first being Monday, Nov. 11 against Xavier (La.) at 7 p.m. The Lions will also take on Grambling State Wednesday, Nov. 13, in a rematch from last year where GSU defeated SLU 68-67. Southeastern will get a third straight home game Sunday, Nov. 17, when they host Mobile (Ala.) at 1 p.m.

Following the matchup with Mobile, the Lions will embark on a four-game road trip to Oklahoma to face Tulsa, Austin Peay, Vanderbilt and UL Lafayette before returning home Friday, Dec. 6 to face Southern (New Orleans).

With the 20-game Southland schedule in place for the 2019-20 season, the Lions will open conference play Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Lamar. SLU will, then, face Ole Miss Dec. 21 in Jackson and Oklahoma State on the road Dec. 29

When the calendar turns to 2020, Southeastern will play all Southland foes. The Lions will play home-and-home matchups with Nicholls, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, McNeese, UNO, Sam Houston, Abilene Christian, Northwestern State and Central Arkansas. SLU will play single games against Incarnate Word and Lamar on the road and face Houston Baptist and Stephen F. Austin at home.

“Adding the extra games is going to make things much more competitive,” said Kiefer. “We have a very underrated conference with some really good coaches. It’s going to be a grind but we’re looking to forward to it.”

The Lions will have a final preseason tuneup Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host William Carey at 1 p.m. in an exhibition.
