Softball: St. Charles Catholic sweeps pair of games Saturday

Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, March 27

It was a good Saturday on the diamond for St. Charles Catholic.

The red-hot Lady Comets won a pair of games, downing Northlake Christian 4-1 before defeating Archbishop Chapelle 6-2 in the Chapelle Round Robin event at Butch Duhe Playground.

In the win over the Lady Wolverines, Kamrynn Cancienne picked up the win, striking out 10 in an outstanding performance as St. Charles Catholic overcame five errors.

Adrienne Arnett had two hits, including an inside-the-park home run to pace the offense.

St. Charles Catholic scored single runs in the first and second innings and added two runs in the fourth to make it 4-0. Northlake Christian scored its run in the top of the fifth.

Cancienne also picked up the win over Chapelle, going 5 2/3 innings, striking out three.

Madison Hebert had three hits and an RBI while Rylee San Andres had two hits and two RBI. Aliyah Manson added a pair of hits and an RBI. Mia Ganote also drove in a run for St. Charles Catholic. Kayla Giardina took the loss for the Chipmunks despite striking out 11.

St. Charles Catholic took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning. The Lady Comets added a run in the sixth to make it 2-0 before putting it away with four runs in the seventh inning. Chapelle scored its two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Lady Comets (18-3), who entered the week second in the most recent LHSAA Division III power rankings, have won eight straight games and will play at Live Oak next Friday.

In the other Round Robin contest, Archbishop Chapelle defeated Northlake Christian 11-2.
