Softball: SSA, Hannan win twice; Clesi fires perfect game Saturday

Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, March 8

At the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park, St. Scholastica swept a pair of games shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

SSA shutout Crowley 10-0.

The Doves scored four runs in the top of the first and scored two more in the top of the third to take a 6-0 lead. They added three runs in the fourth and ended it with a run in the fifth inning.

Ashtyn Ledoux went 3-for-3 with four RBI, Arden Perry had two hits, including a triple and three RBI and Emily Borne doubled in a pair of runs to pace a 9-hit attack for SSA. Kate Meyer and Bailey Sadowski each added an RBI for the Doves.

Maddie Delaune went the distance, pitching a 4-hit shutout. Delaune walked no one and struck out three, using just 42 pitches. Zoe Maynard started and took the loss for the Gents, going two and a third innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits. She walked one and struck out two. Kiersten Trahan pitched the final two and two-thirds innings for Crowley. Alana Abshire, Makaya Damon and Jocelyn Marceaux each had a hit for the Gents.

The Doves also whipped Breaux Bridge 20-9.

SSA scored a run in the top of the first before Breaux Bridge scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

Breaux Bridge made it 5-1 with three runs in the second inning before the Doves exploded for eight runs in the top of the third and it was 9-5. Breaux Bridge answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 9-8 but SSA scored eight more in the top of the fourth and it was 17-8. Breaux Bridge scored a run in the bottom of the fourth but the Doves finished the scoring with three runs in the fifth.

Perry had three hits, including two triples and four RBI while Delaune and Lili Mccaleb each had two hits and two RBI. Caroline Lebouef and Sadowski each had a pair of RBI and Borne, Ledoux and Meyer each drove in a run as SSA punched out 13 hits. Delaune got the win, allowing six earned runs on nine hits. She walked one and struck out two.

St. Scholastica (2-2-2) will travel to Pearl River Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Also in the tournament, Archbishop Hannan swept a pair of games in convincing fashion, beating Lafayette Christian 17-2 in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule before demolishing Westgate 15-0 in another game shortened by the mercy rule.

In the nightcap, Alex Clesi pitched a perfect game for the Hawks.

Hannan (7-2) returns to action at home against Franklinton Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
