Softball: South Plaquemines rolls over St. Mary’s Academy

Area Prep Softball Report for Thursday, Mar. 2

South Plaquemines took apart St. Mary’s Academy 20-1 in a game shortened to two innings by the mercy rule.

The Hurricanes scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning and added 11 runs in the second inning. St. Mary’s got its only run in the bottom of the first inning.

Ja’Nyah Manuel had two hits, including a triple, with three RBI while Addison McGuire had two hits, including a double with two RBI for South Plaquemines. Jo’Neyla Chester had a hit and three RBI, Jade Mitchell had two hits and two RBI and Dallas Washington had two hits and an RBI.

Jaylnn Recasner picked up the win, allowing a run on one hit with a walk and five strikeouts.

South Plaquemines (1-1) returns to action Thursday, hosting Higgins at 4:30 p.m.

St. Mary’s Academy (2-1) will host New Orleans Science & Math Friday at 4 p.m.
