Softball: Riverside, Dominican, John Ehret among winners Tuesday

Area Prep Softball Report for Wednesday, March 31

Riverside Academy won its fourth straight game, rolling over Ecole Classique 17-0 in District 9-1A play at Reserve.

Senior Cara Campbell was the hitting star with a grand slam while Chloe Simon had an inside-the-park home run for the Rebels.

Both teams return to District 9-1A action Wednesday. Riverside (11-5, 4-0) travels to Academy of Our Lady at 4:30 p.m. in a non-district contest. Ecole Classique (0-7, 0-4) travels to Country Day at 4 p.m.

Dominican avenged an earlier loss to Mount Carmel, downing the Cubs 6-3 at Harahan Playground.

Dominican jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and added another run to make it 3-0.

But Mount Carmel scored three runs in the second to tie the game 3-3.

Sophia Martin had a two-run single in the third inning to give Dominican a 5-3 lead before Ella Bertucci drove in the final run on a groundout in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Claire Sekinger picked up the win, going the distance. Sekinger allowed three runs on just three hits. Sekinger walked three and struck out 12.

Lauren Mounce was the losing pitcher for the Cubs.

Mount Carmel defeated Dominican 6-4 on March 18.

Dominican (16-5, 3-1) returns to District 9-5A play hosting John Curtis Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday while Mount Carmel (10-12, 1-4) plays De La Salle this afternoon at 3 p.m. in a non-district contest.

John Ehret downed Higgins 12-2 at Avondale Playground in District 8-5A play.

The game was tied 1-1 going to the fifth inning when the Patriots erupted for five runs in before scoring six more in the top of the sixth to break the game open.

Lucie Llorens picked up the win for the Lady Patriots, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Llorens went 3-for-5 with three RBI, Aiyanna Atchison was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Laila Russell was 2-for-4 with three RBI to pace the Ehret offense.

Ehret (7-9, 2-0) returns to 8-5A action today, at home against East Jefferson at 4 p.m. while Higgins (2-4, 1-1) plays at Bonnabel Thursday at 4 p.m. in district play.
