Softball: Riverside beats Zachary for fourth straight win

Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, April 9

Make it four straight wins for Riverside Academy.

The Rebels went to Zachary and run-ruled the Broncos 15-5 in five innings.

The Rebels jumped on the Broncos immediately with five runs in the top of the first while Zachary scored twice in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-2. Riverside answered with four runs in the second to make it 9-2 and added a run in the third and it was 10-2. Riverside kept the heat on with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth and it was 15-2. Zachary scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth but it was not enough to keep the game alive.

Riverside did its damage by playing long ball all afternoon, belting five home runs.

That included two by Alainah Felton, who also doubled and drove in five runs. Camryn Loving and Ava Fernandez each also had three hits, including a solo homer. Corrin Cashio had a solo homer and a double. Emily Vicknair added a pair of RBI.

Vicknair pitched two innings, allowing two runs on four hits while Amber Palermo pitched three innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

The Rebels (15-9) will play Riverdale on the road Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Broncos (7-18) will travel to French Settlement Monday at 6 p.m.
