Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, April 10

If the second chapter is like the first one, it should be quite a contest.

John Curtis Christian looks to clinch the District 9-5A softball championship and the top-seed in the Division I playoffs when the Patriots face Mount Carmel at 4 p.m. at the JPRD Complex in Metairie this afternoon. A victory by the Cubs would result in a tie for the district title.

The Lady Patriots tuned up with a hard earned 8-6 victory at Belle Chasse Monday for their fifth consecutive victory. Alyssa Dean led the charge, driving in four runs, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Remi Hebert picked up the win, going the distance, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.

The Cubs (17-5, 4-1) tuned up with a convincing 10-2 victory at Walker Monday.

Curtis (19-6, 5-0) rallied past Mount Carmel 4-3 on Mar. 20 at River Ridge in a thriller when Dean belted a two-out, walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh in a dramatic finish.

Also at stake, most likely, is the top-seed in the Division I playoffs. The latest LHSAA power rankings released a week ago had Mount Carmel slightly ahead of the Lady Patriots but Curtis has likely moved ahead of the Cubs, going 4-0 since the rankings were released while Mount Carmel went 1-1, falling to St. Amant before beating Walker.
