While the John Curtis Christian baseball team makes headlines weekly as a nationally ranked team and defending state champion, the Curtis softball team is quietly doing the same although the accomplishments cannot be silenced anymore.

The Lady Patriots remained unbeaten and on top in District 9-5A with a convincing 14-4 victory over Archbishop Chapelle in River Ridge Wednesday in a game shortened to five innings by the Mercy rule at River Ridge.

Curtis (17-6, 5-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, five in the second and five in the third. They ended the game with a run in the fifth inning.

The Chipmunks (3-19, 1-5) scored a run in the second inning and three in the fifth but it was not enough. Curtis has now won three straight games and nine of its last 10 overall. Chapelle has lost four straight and 10 of its last 11 games.

The Lady Patriots hold a one game lead over defending Division I state champion Mount Carmel in district play. The two will square off in the final game of the regular season on Apr. 10 at the JPRD Complex in Metairie. Curtis surprised the Cubs 4-3 on Mar. 20 at River Ridge. Mount Carmel returns to action in a non-district contest at home today against Dutchtown at 4 p.m. at the JPRD Complex in Metairie.

John Curtis returns to action Saturday at home against Haynes at noon while Chapelle hosts St. Thomas Aquinas next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
