Softball Report: Hannan rolls over AOL

Make it seven straight for Archbishop Hannan.

Ranked second in the LHSAA Division II power rankings, the Lady Hawks rolled over Academy of Our Lady 12-2 at Coquille Park in a game shortened to six innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

Hannan (11-1) scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead before the Penguins tied it with two runs in the top of the third inning on a double by Gina Escude.

The Hawks broke the stalemate with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-2, broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and ended it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kennedy Martin led a 10-hit attack with three hits and three RBI while Gentry Spinks also drove in three runs for Hannan. Breanne Breaux added two hits for the Penguins.

Allie Hutton pitched six innings to get the win. Hutton allowed two runs on four hits. She walked just one and struck out five. Kaitlyn Luebbert took the loss for the Penguins (8-5).

The Penguins are ranked tenth in the power rankings.

Both teams return to action today as Archbishop Hannan hosts Jewel Sumner at 5 p.m. in District 7-3A action while AOL, which has lost four of five games, travels to Thomas Jefferson for a 4 p.m. non-district contest.
