Softball Report: Franklinton remains hot with win over Albany
Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, April 2
Franklinton downed Albany 6-3 in a non-district contest at Franklinton Monday.
The Demons took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning but the Hornets scored three times in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Franklinton decided the outcome with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Bailey Brooks had a hit and two RBI while Kiersten Allen added a pair of RBI for the Demons. Albanie Fussell had a two hits and an RBI and Missouri Varnado also drove in a run for Franklinton.
Brittney Turner had a hit and drove in all three runs for the Hornets while Annalea Giamalva had three hits and a run scored for Albany.
Fussell picked up the win, pitching a complete game. Fussell allowed seven hits, walking four and striking out six. Giamalva absorbed the loss in relief of Turner. Giamalva allowed three runs in two and two-third innings after Turner gave up two runs in three and one-third innings.
Winners of three straight games, the Demons (18-7), who are unofficially fifth in the Class 4A power ratings, return to District 8-4A action today at 4 p.m. at Salmen while the Hornets (18-9), who saw their three-game win streak end, will play at Pearl River today at 4 p.m. Albany is tenth in the unofficial Class 3A power ratings.
