It was a convincing start to the season for De La Salle Thursday at Jefferson Playground.

The Lady Cavs belted Riverdale 21-2 in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule.

De La Salle scored three runs in the top of the first inning before the Lady Rebels got a run back in the bottom of the frame. The Lady Cavs scored five runs in the top of the second and broke the game open with six runs in the third inning to make it 14-1. De La Salle scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning before Riverdale got its final run in the bottom of the frame but it was not enough to extend the game.

Cavaliers senior MeCollet Bradley had four hits, including a home run and a double and drove in two runs for De La Salle while junior Taylor Edwards added four hits. Freshman Gaby Vado and sophomore Cera Blanchard each had three hits and three RBI for De La Salle.

Blanchard was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing one run on four hits, while Grace Tauzier pitched the other inning for De La Salle. The Lady Cavs return to action this afternoon at Harahan Playground against Dominican at 3:30 p.m.
