Softball Report: De La Salle handles Chapelle ,12-5
While it was a hard night for the De La Salle boys basketball team in Lake Charles with a narrow loss in the semifinals to University Lab, it was a good day at The Fly for the De La Salle softball team.
The Lady Cavs whipped Archbishop Chapelle 12-5.
The Chipmunks broke on top with a run in the top of the first inning but the Lady Cavs answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Chapelle cut the deficit to 3-2 with a run in the top of the third and took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 4-3.
De La Salle tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth before hitting Chapelle with a five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead. The Lady Cavs put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth before the Chipmunks completed the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh.
The big blows came from Taylor Edwards and Mecolett Bradley.
Edwards belted a three-run home run while Bradley had a two-run triple to pace the De La Salle offense. Cera Blanchard picked up the win for the Lady Cavs (4-4).
Madison Perez had two hits and an RBI while Savannah Scarengos, Gillian Grahn and Madison Cruz each had an RBI to pace a nine-hit attack for Chapelle (1-9). Kristina Bickham took the loss, going five and a third innings, allowing all 12 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits. She walked five and struck out one. The Chipmunks have now lost nine straight since a season opening victory over Ursuline.
De La Salle returns to action next Monday at Riverside Academy at 4 p.m. while Chapelle is back in action this afternoon at 4 p.m. at East Jefferson.
