Softball Report: Belle Chasse rallies past Dominican
A year ago, Belle Chasse reached the Class 4A quarterfinals. This year, the Cardinals are determined to take it deeper into the postseason and thus far in 2018, they look like they have the potential to do just that.
Belle Chasse rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome Dominican 5-3 at Belle Chasse Thursday. Dominican played for the Division I state championship a year ago.
Kelsey Johnson doubled home a run in the bottom of the first to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Dominican (2-3) took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning to make it 2-1 and scored another run in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1.
Northwest Florida State commit Brookelyn Sweeney blasted a two-run home run. Shelby Devine and Brooke Plaisance each added an RBI single. Sweeney picked up the win in relief for the Cardinals (7-1). The only loss for the Cardinals was to Denham Springs. Dominican has dropped three straight games after opening the season 2-0.
Both teams play in the Hahnville Tournament today and tomorrow at West Bank Bridge Park.
