Softball: Megan Landry repeats as Southland Pitcher of the Week
THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University senior Megan Landry has been named Southland Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight time as the league office announced Monday afternoon its weekly honors. Southland Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.
Landry made an appearance in five of the Colonels’ (26-16, 15-3 SLC) six contests last week, playing a crucial role in Nicholls’ undefeated week. The senior tallied an impressive 23 strikeouts and a 0.74 ERA while limiting her opponents to a .160 batting average. Landry posted a 4-0 record in addition to a save and became just the 13th player in the NCAA to reach 20 wins on the season.
A native of Pierre Part, Louisiana, Landry had three complete games but her most impressive performance may have been in her first save opportunity since 2017. After tossing all seven innings in the opener against HBU, she checked into game two with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning of the nightcap and forced a popup behind the plate to preserve the 3-2 lead. Landry then retired the Huskies in order in the seventh inning and came back on Saturday with a three-hit complete game as Nicholls extended its win streak to 10 games.
Nicholls will head to Southern Miss on Tuesday, April 16 for its final nonconference matchup of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Nicholls and USM meet earlier this season in Thibodaux with Colonels taking a 4-1 decision.
