Softball: LA Tech run rules Grambling State
RUSTON, La. – Marilyn Rizzato homered and Lindsay Edwards drove in three more runs to lead Louisiana Tech to a 10-2 run rule victory over Grambling State Tuesday night at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Rizzato blasted her fifth home run of the season – a two-run shot to left field – in the bottom of the second and Edwards recorded run-scoring doubles in the fifth and sixth innings as the Lady Techsters (35-10) scored the final eight runs of the game.
Preslee Gallaway (14-6) picked up the victory in the circle, striking out six batters while allowing two runs – one earned – on just two hits and one walk in 6.0 innings of action. Gallaway yielded a solo shot to Tyler Robinson in the top of the second inning as Grambling State (16-19) took an early 1-0 lead.
GSU scored its second run in the fourth inning thanks to a walk, two hit batters and a throwing error by Tech.
Tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Tech finally got to Lady Tigers starters Ja’Lynn Bonner, plating five runs on four hits in the frame. Turkoly (sac fly), Edwards (double) and Bayli Simon (fielders choice) each registered RBI in the frame.
D’Maria Matthews came on in relief for GSU in the sixth and promptly loaded the bases with three straight walks. Jazlyn Crowder drove home a run with a sacrifice fly and Edwards ended the game with a two-run double to centerfield.
Tech improved to 20-0 all-time against Grambling State.
