Softball: John Curtis clinches district title, Chalmette wins twice, Chapelle blanks E.D. White

Area Prep Softball Report for Saturday, April 2

The juggernaut that is John Curtis Christian continues to roll down the tracks at warp speed.

The defending Division I state champion Lady Patriots clinched another District 9-5A title, dominating Dominican 13-3 at Harahan Playground in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule Friday.

Curtis put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jasmine Roach belted a three-run home run while Kai Goodman and Katie Kempton each had base-clearing doubles to pace the Curtis attack. Roach added a second hit and drove in four runs total.

Lauren Sekinger had an RBI double while Mykail Lusco and Reagan Porche each had sacrifice flies to produce runs for Dominican.

John Curtis (24-2, 6-0) is poised to be the top seed in the Division I playoffs. The Lady Patriots will host Covenant Christian at 4:30 p.m. Monday while Dominican (14-7, 4-2) will travel to Archbishop Hannan at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Archbishop Chapelle whipped E.D. White Catholic 10-0 at Butch Duhe Playground in a game shortened to five innings Friday.

The Chipmunks scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, added two in the fourth and closed the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Chapelle hammered 14 hits, led by Allie Domangue with three hits and three runs scored. Katie Deslatte had two hits and three RBI while Kayla Giardina produced two hits and two RBI. Delaney Trosclair had a hit and two RBI and Ava Landry and Emma Ruddy each had two hits and an RBI.

Giardina pitched the shutout, allowing just two hits. Giardina was dominant, walking just one while striking out 11.

Bella Mahler took the loss for the Cardinals, going four innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on 11 hits. Gabrielle Barrios and Bella Breaux each had a hit for E.D. White.

Chapelle (15-9) hosts Haynes Academy today at 2 p.m. at Butch Duhe while E.D. White (9-15) travels to Lutcher at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chalmette won a pair of games, defeating Lutcher 10-5 and outlasting Central Catholic 8-7 in 10 innings.

In the win over Lutcher, Monea Littles had a base-clearing double while Breone Major had a big RBI double as well.

In the win over Central Catholic, Littles belted a two-run home run as the Owls overcame a 6-3 deficit and forced extra innings on an RBI double by Ostendorf, capping a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Owls got the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.

Mikayla Dennis won both games for the Lady Owls.

Chalmette (15-5) will host Ponchatoula at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
