Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, April 5

On Senior Night in River Ridge, John Curtis Christian celebrated in grand fashion.

Madison Laiche had two hits, including a home run and five RBI to pace John Curtis Christian to a 14-1 win Monday over Covenant Christian.

Kai Goodman did the job on the mound, striking 11 in four innings in a dominant performance. Goodman also had an RBI double.

John Curtis (25-2) will host Brusly today at 6 p.m. while Covenant Christian (13-6), who saw their seven-game win streak end, will return to District 9-1A action today at home against Vermilion Catholic at 3:30 p.m.

Ponchatoula scored a run in the top of the first but Chalmette countered with five runs in the bottom of highlighted by an RBI double by Kailee Ostendorf, a two-run home run by Anaya Harris and an RBI double by Mikayla Dennis.

The Owls broke it open with four more runs in the second inning to make it 9-1. After the Lady Wave cut the deficit to 9-2 in the fourth inning, Maddie Rockwell doubled home two runs in the fifth to make it 11-2. Ponchatoula scored three in the seventh but it was not enough.

Chalmette (15-5) has won three straight games. The Owls will host Fisher at 4:30 p.m. today. Ponchatoula (20-9) lost its second straight and the Lady Wave will travel to Belle Chasse on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
