Softball: Higgins hammers West St. John

Area Prep Softball Report for Thursday, March 21

It was a good day for Higgins softball Wednesday.

The Hurricanes traveled to Edgard and easily defeated West St. John 19-1 in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule.

Higgins put the game away immediately, scoring 16 runs in the top of the first inning and finished it off with three more runs in the third inning.

Sophomore Ashley Forreaux had a huge afternoon with three hits and five RBI while Yuliany Florencio had four RBI. Chelsea Acosta and Haley Scully each drove in a pair of runs. Khacia Davis, Alyssa Landry and Alexa Naquin each added an RBI for Higgins (9-7).

Forreeaux got the win, allowing one run on one hit. She walked four and struck out seven of the nine outs she recorded.

Higgins returns to action today, hosting Bonnabel at 4 p.m. in a District 8-5A contest at Avondale Playground while the Rams (1-4) entertain Ecole Classique in a District 8-1A contest this afternoon at 4 p.m.
