Softball: Hannan, Willow School, Fisher post wins Monday

Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, April 4

Archbishop Hannan edged Pope John Paul II 8-7 in nine innings at home Monday.

In a wild contest, Pope John Paul scored a run in the top of the first inning but the Hawks answered with six in the bottom of the first. The Jaguars scored two in the second to make it 6-3 and it stayed that way until the seventh inning when Pope John Paul II rallied for three runs to tie the game, sending it to extra innings. Each team scored a run in the eighth inning before Hannan scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth.

Avery Bowers and Emma Burke each had a hit and an RBI while Brianna Baldwin had two hits and scored a run for the Hawks. Cheyenne Jenkins picked up the win, pitching eight innings, allowing six runs on 12 hits.

Ashley Chighizola took the loss, allowing just two earned runs on six hits.

Hannan (15-10) will travel to Holden today at 5 p.m.

Pope John Paul (17-6) will host Franklinton on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Willow School outscored John Ehret 10-7 for its sixth straight win.

Mary Elizabeth Landry went the distance, allowing three earned runs and she struck out 11 Patriots to pick up the win.

The Lions (13-4) will play St. Mary’s Academy Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Patriots (15-4) return to District 9-5A play today, hosting West Jefferson at 4 p.m.

Fisher doubled up Higgins 12-6 at PARD Playground.

The Hurricanes scored a run in the top of the first before Fisher took total control, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the second and four runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 12-1 lead. Higgins scored three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to account for the final margin.

Addyson Haas and Alaina Martinez each had a hit and two RBI while Riley Tassin had two hits and an RBI for the Gators.

Gabrielle St. Ann picked up the win, going four innings, allowing a run on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Both teams return to action Wednesday. Fisher (9-10) travels to Thibodaux at 4:30 p.m. while Higgins (7-10) plays at East St. John at 4:30 p.m.
