Do not ever sell Hahnville short.

An outstanding softball program for years, the Lady Tigers are always tough in the playoffs.

That was true again Thursday.

The tenth-seeded Lady Tigers went on the road and upset No. 7 Live Oak 8-5 in the Class 5A regional round.

Hahnville grabbed the advantage early, taking a 3-1 lead after two innings.

Live Oak rallied to tie it at 3-3 after four innings before the Lady Tigers scored twice in the fifth to grab a 5-3 lead.

The Lady Tigers added two more in the sixth on a two-run homer by Adeline Bertrand to make it 7-3.

Hahnville added an insurance run in the seventh and held on for a big win.

The Lady Tigers (23-10) travel to No. 2 St. Amant for a quarterfinal matchup Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Gators dismissed No. 18 Dutchtown 11-1.

In Division I, it was a rematch of District 9-5A rivals at Muss Bertolino Playground in Kenner.

The third time was the charm for No. 5 Archbishop Chapelle.

Having lost two regular season matchups to Mount Carmel Academy, the Chipmunks put it all together Thursday, beating the fourth-seeded Cubs 5-1.

The Chipmunks used the big inning to get the job done, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning.

In the second, Katie Deslatte had an RBI single, Kaylee Roche had a two-run single while Allie Domangue doubled home a pair of runs to complete the rally.

Kayla Giardina did the rest, pitching a complete game, allowing just an unearned run on three hits. Giardina walked no one and struck out three. Giardina contributed a double to the eight-hit attack for Chapelle.

Mount Carmel got an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning but that was all the Cubs could muster.

Emma Curry took the loss for Mount Carmel, lasting just an inning and a third, allowing all five runs on five hits. Chloe Krey pitched the final five and two-third innings for the Cubs.

Isabella Strassel, Carly Koch and Bailey Nelson each had a single for Mount Carmel (15-18).

Chapelle (19-13) advances to the semifinals for the second straight year, this time in Broussard to take on top seeded district rival and defending state champion John Curtis Christian. Curtis swept Chapelle 9-3 and 11-0 in district play.

In the Division III regional round, No. 7 Pope John Paul II whipped No. 10 Ascension Episcopal 12-2 in six innings to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Lady Jags got a run in the bottom of the first inning before Ascension Episcopal tied it with a run in the top of the third.

The rest of the game belonged to Pope John Paul II.

The Lady Jags scored four runs in the third and one in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Ascension Episcopal added a run in the fifth to make it 6-2 but the Lady Jags scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and ended it with five runs in the sixth inning.

Kayla Benedic went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI, Mallorie Whitten had a hit and two RBI and pitcher Ashley Chighizola had a hit and three RBI to pace a 10-hit attack for the Lady Jags. Benedic had an inside-the-park home run in the first inning and a three-run homer in the sixth.

Chighizola went the distance to pick up the win, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Chighizola walked one and struck out six.

Bella Biggerstaff took the loss for Ascension Episcopal. Biggerstaff had a hit and an RBI at the plate.

Pope John Paul II (9-14-1) will travel to No. 2 St. Charles Catholic in the quarterfinals Saturday at 1 p.m.
