Area Prep Softball Report for Wednesday, Feb. 20

While many games were rained out Tuesday, Dominican went on the road and captured a solid 8-6 victory at Lutcher.

Dominican put up a run in the top of the first inning to grab the early lead before hitting the Bulldogs with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to seemingly break the game open.

Lutcher fought back, scoring three runs each in the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the sixth innings but Dominican held on for the victory.

Both teams return to action Thursday as Dominican (1-0) will host Academy of Our Lady at 4:30 pm at Harahan Playground while Lutcher hosts E.D. White Catholic, also at 4:30 pm.

At Belle Chasse, the Cardinals hammered West Jefferson 15-0 in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule.

The Cardinals scored in every frame, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first and second innings before scoring three in the third to make it 8-0. They finished it off with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Senior Kelsey Johnson had three hits to pace Belle Chasse while Emily Clark, Brooke Plaisance and Izobela Dekovic each added two hits for the Cardinals.

Clark pitched a no-hitter, walking one, striking out eight for the victory.

Belle Chasse returns to action Thursday at Fisher at 4 pm while West Jefferson entertains Ursuline today at 4 pm, weather permitting.
